Bob   BOB
Bob has been manager or co-manager since Westfield Comics' Madison retail store opened in May of 1991. Over the years he’s met a lot of great customers and made some good friends. Watching kids grow up over the course of 16 plus years is an experience usually only witnessed by close friends and relatives. He is very happy to be old enough to have bought Giant-Size X-Men #1 off the rack for cover price at Jerry’s Pipe Shop in Appleton. Bob currently enjoys reading The Boys, Invincible, Brave and the Bold and anything by Brian K. Vaughan. Usually watches too much television (but STILL hasn’t gotten into Battlestar Galactica!) and is thoroughly fascinated by the On Demand feature on Digital Cable.

Josh began buying comics with Captain America #372 in May of 1990; when he looks back, all he sees is more money (spent someplace else) and more boredom (than if he did something else). After a friend (previous Westfield Comics employee Casey) went on to a storied political career, Josh began working at Westfield Comics in July of 2001. One of his first employee picks of the week was Hopeless Savages #1. Over the years, some of Josh’s favorite comics include, in no particular order (and apologies to the rest of the creative team not listed for each):

    * -Lady Snowblood by Kazuo Koike & Kazuo Kamimura
    * -Usagi Yojimbo by Stan Sakai (one of the best 10 comics ever)
    * -Billy Dogma by Dean Haspiel
    * -Grrl Scouts by Jim Mahfood
    * -Shadowman by Bob Hall (with Ennis & Wood not too far behind)
    * -Hardware by Dwayne McDuffie & Denys Cowan
    * -Scion by Ron Marz & Jimmy Cheung
    * -Captain America by Mark Gruenwald with Neary, Morgan, Dwyer & Lim
    * -Captain America by Mark Waid & Ron Garney
    * -Some more Captain America

In 2004, someone allowed Josh the chance to flex his industry muscles in a new way: on the publishing side of things. Since then, he hasn’t stopped harassing Jim. Josh has now started lettering. This is partially because he can’t draw (which also throws inking and colouring out the window), and he writes way too slow, especially considering the quality of material produced. The other reason is so he could stop complaining about the lettering others were printing and to do his best to remedy the situation. Sadly, he hasn’t stopped complaining.

When not at work, Josh might be at a Sharp + Harkins Band show.

Wayne has been working in comics professionally for over 20 years. He has managed retail comic book stores, was the head buyer for Capital City Distribution, spent a few years working for DC Comics in New York and most recently spent 9 years running FM International, an alternative comic distributor to Diamond Comics. Since 2006 Wayne has worked for Westfield Comics, both at the retail store, and as the Back Issue manager for Westfield Comics, the parent company of the retail store. Wayne is known for have a very sharp eye for talent and for being the nicest guy in comics. He says he misses the days of when he would go door to door with his wagon full of comic books looking for people to trade comic books with, of course he was only 6 at the time. He is always willing to discuss comics with anyone that cares to email him: wayne [at] westfieldcomics [dot] com.
Ryan is an import from upstate New York that moved to the Madison area 5 years ago. He works full time at St Mary’s hospital as a Registered Nurse and has been reading comics for 20 years. With his father being a free-lance artist in the late 70’s and early 80’s, Ryan has been known to dabble in artwork, resin casting and model making. He has been working at Westfield Comics for about a year and we don’t have the heart to tell him what decade it is. Almost all of his interests are from the 80’s; everything from Chuck Taylor kicks to Van Halen…not Van Hagar, original Star Wars, and GI Joe.
Chadi has been reading comics since the age of 12. The first comic he collected was based on one of his favorite childhood shows, Robotech. It, along with Batman, were what got him reading monthly comics. He has worked at Westfield since September of 1993 and still works there occasionally. The comics he still keeps up with are Fables, Batman and Detective, as well as anything by Brian Stelfreeze, Gary Frank, and James Jean. He also love books by Brian K Vaughn, Frank Miller and Peter David. His favorite movie is Empire Strikes Back and his favorite character, of course, is Vader. He has finally has caught onto the greatest show ever… Heroes! He loves that it not only spotlights Tim Sale’s amazing artwork but it has an amazing storyline! In addition to all that, he loves to play video games. He has owned every console system that Nintendo has ever put out. He loves to play all of the retro (8-bit) games as well as all Mario, Zelda, and Metroid incarnations. If you ever want to discuss any of these topics at greater length, look him up at the store!!
