Westfield: Why did you set the story of Captain American: White in the early days of Cap's career?

Jeph Loeb: First, those things are part of the established storytelling in all of the color books. DD: Yellow, Spidey Blue, and Hulk Gray all found the heart of the stories in the early days. Some of that is mine and Tim's affection for that period. Some of that is being able to tell a story that is clean of today's continuity. But mostly, the idea of a hero learning his way, full of optimism, and sometimes tragedy, makes for a more interesting tale. For us, at least! HA!

Westfield: What can people look forward to in the mini-series?

Loeb: Besides Tim Sale's incredible artwork? Dave Stewart's astonishing colors? Richard Starkings and JG Roshell's extraordinary lettering and design work? You still want more? How about Sgt. Fury and the Howling Commandos? How's about eye popping action in the Marvelous Marvel manner? Face front, True Believer - if you're only going to buy one comic this winter, it's Cap White! (Thank you, Stan for filling in on that one!)

Westfield: Will you be exploring the way war was perceived in the 1940s vs. now?

Loeb: Some. The cost of war hasn't changed. And never will. But, the battle lines are cleaner. Nobody can argue: Nazis bad.

Westfield: You're working with artist again Tim Sale on Captain America: White. What makes your collaboration with Tim special or enjoyable for you?

Loeb: I think we speak the same language. The same films, books, and images inspire us. Having said that, we're very different people. Tim draws like no one else. I've often said he's a master illustrator. So, he makes my job that much easier! HA!

Westfield: Are there any other projects you're working on that you'd like to mention?

Loeb: Sure! I'm having a ball on Hulk with Ed "Ed" McGuinness! And keep an eye out for Ultimatum this fall with Dave Finch. It's really quite special.

Westfield: Any closing comments?

Loeb: Just thank you to the fans and retailers who have made every single issue of Hulk and Ultimates sell out both in the first and second printings. It's great to be back at Marvel and see so much success!
