Empowered Special

Empowered Special

Empowered Special #2

As a huge fan of Adam Warren’s super-hero-comic-book-spoof-slash-love-letter Empowered, it’s pretty much a given I want to buy this comic. While some people may be turned off by the fact that Adam Warren isn’t drawing the entire issue, Emily Warren (no relation, we’re told) is no slouch in the illustration department. You don’t believe me?! Well, this time I’m not going to ask you to take my word for it. I have proof (not to be confused with Proof)!

Legion of Super-Heroes: The Curse

Legion of Super-Heroes: The Curse

Legion of Super-Heroes: The Curse Deluxe Edition hard cover

Continuing where the epic Legion of Super-Heroes: Great Darkness Saga deluxe hard cover left off, this over-sized volume is something I’ve been long awaiting; like, since I first read The Great Darkness Saga (in soft cover) ten years ago.

If you’ve been nice enough to read my Fifth Degree: Do Some Good column (and even if you haven’t), you’ve probably figured out that the Hero Initiative is a non-profit organization that’s pretty meaningful to me. Buying this comic supports them, but you’re also getting a pretty cool comic out of the deal. Also, in case you hadn’t heard, the original creative team behind the late 80s/early 90s Sandman series is reuniting for a story. I hear that title might have a few fans.

Shinku #1

For those who have had to listen to me for more than seven minutes in the past year may already know, I’m already a pretty big fan of this book. Sadly (in a not-originally-giving-credit-where-it’s-due kind of way), I just noticed I have a correction to make: Lee Moder isn’t inking his own stuff on this project. The inking is being deftly handled by DeviantArt Inception digital comics cover contest winner Matthew Waite! Also, this title also now features full color by Michael Atiyeh. I suppose I could also mention that Ron & Lee both will be signing all copies ordered from us, but that just sounds like overkill.

Hulk-Sized Mini-Hulks #1

I’ve only read one or two of these here or there, but this is just the collection I was waiting for! For more all-ages awesomocity, check out Chris Giarusso’s G-Man!

15 Love #1 (of 3)

Finally… finally!!! The long-awaited (by me and a few tennis fans, at least) story by Andi Watson — originally intended for Marvel’s Tsunami line, if my memory serves me correctly – is finally being released!!! I’ll be waiting for the trade, though… maybe.

Captain America by Dan Jurgens Volume 1 soft cover

I could ramble on about this material (that I’ve never fully read), or instead I could just direct you to this great column by Bob Greenberger. Now if they’d also get around to collecting some of the great Ron Lim-drawn stories…

She-Hulks: Hunt for the Intelligencia soft cover

Just in case you haven’t noticed his artwork yet, keep an eye open for the artist of the enjoyable She-Hulks mini-series portion of this book: Ryan Stegman. (Don’t tell him I said this, because it’ll just make him more unbearable, but his work is amazing!!!) Also, Jonboy Meyers drawing Peter David’s script for She Hulk: Sensational is nothing to scoff at, either!

Well, I’ve only made it through the first half of Previews, but that seems like a good place to call it a week. Be back for more next week, true believers!

Josh Crawley may or may not be the keyboardist for Everclear. He strongly suggests you not bet that he is.
