I think we all know how this works by now but just in case: I like to point out some things you should consider because they’re awesome. Hopefully I can point out some older stuff you might have missed, too.

Femina and Fauna: The Art of Camilla d’Errico

I first recall seeing and adoring d’Errico’s artwork on the Sandman Presents: Thessaly covers. While I don’t have the space for five comics that I desire for five images, this hardcover collection full of her beautiful art will make it much easier for her art to find its way into my collection, possibly even on the coffee table! If you haven’t picked them up yet, I’d also recommend Lonely Heart and Lost Constellation, two books full of art by Tara McPherson.

DC Comics Presents: Batman Beyond

DC Comics Presents: Batman Beyond #1

When these were originally solicited for, I wasn’t too thrilled with the concept. Sure, the price broke down to $2 per issue, but there was no mention of paper stock, or even more important, how they’d be bound. Well, if the shipping-this-week Green Lantern and Jack Cross books are indicative of the initiative as a whole, these will be great books: a decent glossy stock, less than ten ads (including the back inside & outside covers), and they’re square bound. Though I’m still not thrilled that some of them seem to be done as a series of books; we’ve already had these serialized once. If DC is doing some of these as a series collecting a single story they may as well make them a single graphic novel collection.

So, yeah, this Batman Beyond book should look pretty great. I’ll be able to get rid of my single copies of 21 & 22.

I’ll also probably pick up DC Comics Presents: JLA #1 since I very much enjoyed the Kelly & Mahnke run, and this material apparently hasn’t been collected before, which probably explains why I don’t recall having ever reread this story before (and I first read it long, long ago, and having forgotten more in my life than I remember, well, my memory of this story is long gone). While I’m at it, here’s all the DC Comics Presents we’re still offering, as well as the still available Vertigo Resurrected books. And even though the WildStorm imprint will be gone at the end of the year, newer fans of Planetary and the Authority may be interested in WildStorm Presents: Planetary – Lost Worlds #1.

This is possibly one of the most inventive and well designed figures of this series to date (Wonder Woman V.2 and her variable direction hair is high on that list, too). Not only is her skirt a scaled mermaid’s tail, but it allows her to appear to be floating! I also appreciate the fish-like fins on her shoulders. And with that look on her face, I’m wondering just how soon someone will customize a Red Lantern Mera! (If you find one, please let me know!)

Before you ask, no, I’m not choosing this just because I’m sucking up to fellow Westfield Comics blogger, manly man, and Wynonna Earp creator Beau Smith. As far as I know, he doesn’t even read these.

Nope, I just really love Enrique Villigran’s cover. It’s beautiful! Also, one of the bullet selling points is “Yeti vs. Bigfoot,” and that pretty much equals fun! And who doesn’t love fun? Even the Grinch loves fun!
