Fifth Degree: Previews 261 + Marvel Previews #82
By Josh Crawley
As I write this, I’m listening to John Siuntris interview Kelly Sue DeConnick for his Word Balloon podcast. Maybe if you listen to it while reading this, you’ll understand me just a little bit better…
Probably not.
I recently uploaded lettered files for a Tales of the Fear Agent back-up written by the incomparable Hilary Barta. I uploaded them into the folder for this issue! This story is noteworthy because 1) I lettered it well over a year ago, and 2) it was the last time Hilary gave me letter placements along with a lettering job. That’s a great feeling. It really makes me feel like I’ve got the chops. Or The Walk to go with The Talk.
I really enjoyed Volume 1, which has beautiful art! Sadly, I haven’t read it in ages, so I can’t give a well-formed opinion of the writing, though I do know I wanted to read more!
Do you remember when I wrote about the brothers Bá & Moon before? Well, this is the great book I mentioned that was out of print, now in hard cover!
This is the male Star Sapphire we get? Meh.
Batman: Streets of Gotham – Leviathan Hard Cover
Dustin Nguyen draws my favorite. Huntress. EVER.
Juan Jose Ryp’s artwork will probably be familiar to those who’ve read Warren Ellis’ Avatar work, such as Wolfskin Volume 1. El Torres is the writer of the critically acclaimed The Veil, published by IDW. On this book, you get the studio-mates reunited for this hellacious romp!
Sharknife? I can’t wait for Orcasword! Peng? Kickball awesomocity! I have every faith that Seedless will be just as enjoyable (+ color)!
An ALL-NEW omnibus! Not a new printing! Add it to your collection! (Also, only collects through #32 [the last issue published], not #34, and the cover is by Chris Dien, not Ryan Ottley.)
The Darkness: Four Horsemen #1
If you thought Jeff Wamester’s art on Frenemy of the State was great, be sure to check this mini-series out!
Witchblade: Redemption Volume 1
Similarly to Witchblade Volume 1 by Ron Marz and The Darkness: Accursed Volume 1 by Phil Hester, this book’s retail price is only $4.99 through your friendly neighborhood comic book store… for five (5!) comics’ worth of material! Fan of Aphrodite IX? See the evolution of Aphrodite IV here, and it also leads into the forthcoming Artifacts series!
Yeah, that looks like Steve Rogers putting on Nova’s helmet!
New Rescue armor?! Yes!
Cap, Rhino, A.I.M., and a baby rhino in captivity.; hilarity to ensue!
Ani-Max #1 (one shot)
Ron Marz writing about a kid that turns into a mystic human-animal hybrid? Sign me up!
What If? The Fantastic Four: A Tribute to Mike Wieringo
Any fan of Walt Simonson & Art Adams’ New Fantastic Four should check out this amazing tribute to a great artist taken from us far too early. Added bonus: a percentage of proceeds go to the Hero Initiative!
Jamie Madrox Multiple Man T-shirt!
This is the best t-shirt – next to the Lantern Corps t-shirts – for lots of people to wear at the same time! It’s been a long time coming.
I’ve never heard these guys, but I really want to check these out!
That’s it for this week!
