Highlights This Week: This week marks the 80th anniversary of the first appearance of Batman, on March 30, 1939, in “Detective Comics” #27 and the yearlong birthday party is highlighted by the release of Detective Comics #1000! It’s 96 pages long, with stories from Batman’s past, present and future.  Veteran Bat-writer Denny O’Neil presents a sequel to his famous 1976 “Detective” story “There’s No Hope in Crime Alley,” with artist Steve Epting, but the lead story, by the current team of Peter J. Tomasi and Doug Mahnke, will feature the debut of the videogame character “Arkham Knight,” whose identity is unknown, but whose sole purpose is to snuff out Gotham’s Guardian. Other short stories in the book include all-new work by writer/artist teams Kevin Smith and Jim Lee; Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev; Warren Ellis and Becky Cloonan; Paul Dini and Dustin Nguyen; Christopher Priest and Neal Adams; Geoff Johns and Kelley Jones; Tom King, Tony Daniel and Joëlle Jones; Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo; and James Tynion IV and Alvaro Martinez! Also from DC, “Leviathan, Rising” continues in Action Comics #1008; Sam Humphries and Joe Quinones update a classic 60s title with Dial H For Hero #1 (of 6); Booster and Harley become allies in Heroes in Crisis #7 (of 9); and Billy Batson and the other foster kids are lost in the dangerous Wildlands in Shazam #4! New from Marvel Comics, Marvel Rising #1 (of 5) is an all-new mini-series based on the hit Disney XD movie, that brings together again Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, America Chavez, Spider-Gwen and Captain Marvel to stop the sorceress Morgan le Fay from turning New Jersey into The New Camelot! Also, Amazing Spider-Man #18; Fantastic Four #8, Daredevil #3, Hulkverines #2 (of 3), Invaders #3, Ironheart #4, Star Wars Vader: Dark Visions #2 (of 5), and Superior Spider-Man #4!  Image Comics features, Isola #7, Man-Eaters #7 and Mark Millar’s Sharkey The Bounty Hunter #2 (of 6)! IDW gives us the 2nd issue of their reboot of the “Robots in Disguise” in Transformers #2 and give us a comic based on the hit Netflix show, Glow #1! And Dark Horse “presents”, Fight Club 3 #3, Umbrella Academy: Hotel Oblivion #6 (of 7) and William Gibson’s Alien 3 #5 (of 5)!
