YIKES! Just YIKES!
A KC COLUMN by KC Carlson
All kinds of frenetic activity in comics this week. (Don’t worry… Nothing is radioactive… we think…)
Archie: The Married Life #6 (of 6)
Yes, that’s right! This is the last issue of this series — where an adult Betty Cooper takes on Cheryl Blossom to be Riverdale’s Congresswoman to take over for Moose Mason! But, wait… are there some political shenanigans going on from Lodge Corp while Hiram Lodge’s life hangs in the balance? Written by Michael Uslan with art and cover by Dan Parent. (Cary Nord provides an alternate cover.)
Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 (of 5)
Nostalgia never dies! Rita Repulsa faces off against Shredder for control of the weapon that will change the Power Rangers forever! No matter who wins, the world will never be the same! (Isn’t that always the case?) As the two villains battle, the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers team up with their new allies the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to storm the Foot Clan base to save Tommy. By Ryan Parrott, Simone Di Meo, Dan Mora, and more.
The EC Archives: Psychoanalysis
Back in the day, EC Comics produced a lot of odd comic books (as they looked to move away from horror after the scares that created the Comics Code), but perhaps the oddest was the four-issue run of Psychoanalysis from 1955. Written by Daniel Keyes (you probably read his novel Flowers for Algernon when you were a kid), Psychoanalysis delves into the lives (and subconscious minds) of three people searching for answers about their personal turmoils. Robert Bernstein was the series’ other writer (who also had an interesting life — check out his Wikipedia page, and artists for the series included Jack Kamen and Marie Severin. Who other than Bob Burden (Flaming Carrot) could write the introduction to this 176-page hardcover? These archives are really nice hardcovers with exemplary production values!
DC Crimes of Passion
Detective Slam Bradley returns to narrate this all-new 80-page giant of Ten Tales of Love! (“The kind of love that pushes people over the edge”, says Bradley!) Under a cover by Yasmin Putri, there are actually Ten Tales of Love here, written by James Tynion IV, Steve Orlando, Sina Grace, Jay Baruchel, Stephanie Phillips, and others. Artists include Greg Smallwood, Riley Rossmo, Andie Tong, Mike Norton, Anthony Spay, and more! Are you not passionate enough yet to go and rob a bank?
X-Men/Fantastic Four #1
This is by writer Chip Zdarsky and artists Terry Dodson, Rachel Dodson, Dexter Vines, Karl Story, Laura Martin, and VC’s Joe Caramanga — so already the creators probably outnumber the characters! It’s difficult to talk about this series, as there’s a lot going on continuity-wise here, and important plot points from months (years?) ago seem to to be returning. If you want to get a jump-start, you might want to go back and re-read House of X #1, as well as the first Fantastic Four/X-Men miniseries from 1987. If you’re into all that continuity, it looks like this miniseries is just up your alley! Other characters appearing include Franklin Richards, Magneto, Professor X, and who knows who else!

KC CARLSON wanted to talk more about Harley Quinn (who is apparently on her way to take over the comic book world… again). But then all of the above started happening! Sorry Harley!
WESTFIELD COMICS is not responsible for the stupid things that KC says. Especially that thing that really irritated you. Are you not irritated yet?
