LOOKIT ALL THE NEW STUFF!!!
A KC COLUMN by KC Carlson
And you thought you’d have nothing new to read this week. Check some of these out:
MARVEL COMICS
Star Wars #1 — “No… I am your father.” Of course the Daddy issues continue… now in the hands of writer Charles Soule and artist Jesus Saiz! After narrowly escaping the Dark Lord’s clutches, and wounded — and reeling from the revelation — Luke, Princess Leia, Lando Calrissian, the Wookiee Chewbacca, and the droids C-3PO and R2-D2 must fight their way back to the Rebel Alliance — for the fate of the entire galaxy is at stake! After so many losses is victory still possible? Let’s hope so!… These guys don’t need to be losing battles on New Years Day!
Tarot #1 (of 4) — Teaming The Avengers and The Defenders, writer Alan Davis and artist Paul Renaud kick off a new four-issue series. It spotlights characters such as Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, and the Vision on the Avengers side, while the infamous Non-Team known as the Defenders include the Incredible Hulk, Dr. Strange, Silver Surfer, Sub-Mariner, and Valkyrie. Who will win? Everybody that buys/reads this awesome miniseries!
Thor #1 — The Prince is now the King! After many months of war, the Ten Realms are finally at peace. But a darkness is surrounding Asgard… The Black Winter is coming. Will the God of the Storm be up for this new challenge? Writer Donny Cates, artist Nic Klein, and cover artist Olivier Coipel sure think so!
Hawkeye Freefall #1 — A mysterious and new Ronin has surfaced in the Marvel Universe causing much destruction — which places much suspicion on Hawkeye. Still reeling from a battle with the Hood that ended badly, of course Hawkeye takes on a new mission that places him in the crosshairs of one of Marvel’s most dangerous villains! Written by Matthew Rosenberg (Uncanny X-Men, The Punisher) and artist Otto Schmidt (Green Arrow). Cover by Kim Jacinto.
DC COMICS
Action Comics #1018 — Writer Brian Michael Bendis reunites with artists John Romita Jr. and Klaus Janson on Part Two of “Metropolis Doom!” — One of the biggest Superman stories in a long time! And if that wasn’t enough — the Justice League and Young Justice are also involved! They’ll need all that firepower to take on the Invisible Mafia, Lex Luthor, and the Legion of Doom. Cover by JRJR/Janson.
And for the younger readers, check out the new Wonder Woman graphic novel showing her as a young girl — Diana: Princess of the Amazons! It’s written by New York Times bestselling authors Shannon Hale & Dean Hale and illustrated by Victoria Ying. Her artwork is most charming in many different ways. 160 pages!
And plenty of other great new comics and related items are just waiting at your local comics store (or subscription service) for you to scoop them up. You’ll need a four-color pick me up to start the New Year off right!
