Marvel Comics Presents #9 — This is the All-Wolverine Issue! All Wolverine All the time!! First, Wolverine’s decades-long battle with demon the Truth comes to a bloody and brutal finale! Then there’s a trip into the digital world of the .EXE/men to meet their version of Logan! Creators include Charles Soule, Paulo Siqueira, Arthur Adams, David Yardin, and the always-reliable More.

(I have a question: Is this actually being printed on paper, or am I just gonna wake up on Wednesday with it implanted in my head? I sort of need to know, as there are a few titles this week with what seems like billions of characters. *sigh*)

Marvel Team-Up #6

Marvel Team-Up #6 — This issue teams up all of Marvel’s Captain Marvels! Unfortunately, the “other” Captain Marvel — the one from the Distinguished Competition who can’t even use his real name — won’t be there, but the dead one will be there. Confused yet? Yeah, me too. Makes me want to shout my magic word that makes me black out! Oh, wait, that’s my magic hammer… Anyway, just look at the pretty cover picture that’s somewhere around here and you will understand completely. (Wait, the dead guy is there? Uhhh…) Man, writer Clint McElroy, artist Ig Guara, and cover artist Anna Rud are never gonna forgive me (even though I haven’t met the last two… yet).

Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur #47

Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur #47 (the last issue) — Man, I wish I didn’t have to type that, but it’s true. But unless MG & DD (not Daredevil) join the Avengers or something in this story, this might be the last time we see them. *sigh* Written by Brandon Montclare, with art by Alitha Martinez, and a cover by Rahzzah. At least Lunella Lafayette (aka Moon Girl) FINALLY gets her “Brain-Off” with one of the biggest brains in the Marvel Universe — Reed Richards!

Scooby-Doo Team-Up #50

Scooby-Doo Team-Up #50 — Guest starring Batman & Bat-Mite & Scooby-Mite! What could be worse? Well, dozens and dozens of variant versions of Batman and Scooby-Doo!!! (No, you DO NOT get to double-bag these variants! Sheesh… Kids today…) So watch out for the League of Batmen and the Society of Scoobies because this weird-ball series might actually be over with this issue. (Say It Ain’t So Scooby-Joe!!!) But we never got to see the Scooby-Doo/Doomsday Clock crossover! (Perhaps that’s a good thing… )

Plus, a standing ovation to writer Sholly Fisch who wrote every single issue of SDTU! (And I think it’s great that both his names screw up most spellcheck programs!!!) Scott Jeralds is the artist for this last (sniff…) issue!

Shazam! #7

Shazam! #7 — Ever wonder what happened to this series? It’s probably safe to say that writer Geoff Johns has a lot of irons in the fire currently in that fireplace we call Hollywood. Let’s hope that Shazam will be once again be regularly published for the foreseeable future. In case you don’t remember, this issue reveals the the shocking new member of the Shazam family! (Paste Pot Pete? Okay Okay… but that would be shocking, no?) Swell-egant artwork by Dale Eaglesham.

Wonder Woman #79

Wonder Woman #79 — The Cheetah and her God Killer sword have destroyed Diana’s golden lasso and unbreakable bracelets! Well, that’s not good… I have a horrible feeling that the Cheetah is really going to muck up the DC Universe over the next few months…

Legion of Super-Heroes: Millennium #2

Legion of Super-Heroes: Millennium #2 — Concerned that you didn’t see too many Legionnaires in LoSH: Millennium #1? This issue makes up for that, and more, since we see all of the Legion of Super-Heroes (well, at least this new version of them…) as well as Booster Gold, O.M.A.C., and other time-travelers. Please try not to get too upset over small things, because writer Brian Michael Bendis, artist Nicola Scott (with lots of help from V.A. Rious), and cover artist Bryan Hitch are typing and drawing as fast as they can! Long Live the new Legion creators! The 31st Century wasn’t built in a day, y’know!

Part of a Bigger Universe: Unforgettable Quotes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Not quite Last but not quite Least either, I stumbled across a new not-really comics book that I suspect a lot of folks might want to check out. Titled Part of a Bigger Universe: Unforgettable Quotes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this is a 128-page, 7.3” x 0.5” x 7.3” hardcover packed with “the most amusing, aspirational, and awe-inspiring quotable moments from the characters that make these iconic films what they are today.” I could have really used this book a couple of weeks ago, when Johanna was visiting her folks and I was home alone trying not to cause trouble like that bratty movie kid. So I decided to spend most of an entire day re-watching Phase One of the MCU! (Although I cheated a little and skipped The Incredible Hulk — at least for now.)

For the record I watched Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, and Marvel’s The Avengers. Notably, I did not watch any of the special features on the discs (other than the short films that accompanied the features). I will go back and catch up with those soon, before moving to Phase Two. (I now also have the new fall TV Season to decide what to watch there, so it might be a bit before I can get back to the MCU full steam.)

So, since I’ve got a little time, grabbing this MCU Quote Book (written/compiled by Steve Behling, who also writes a lot of Marvel books for kids!) might be a good idea for when I have a spare hour or two.
