Few works by comic-book artists have earned the universal acclaim and reverence that Bernie Wrightson's illustrated version of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley's Frankenstein was met with upon its original release in 1983. Twenty-five years later, this magnificent pairing of art and literature is still considered to be one of the greatest achievements made by any artist in the field. Now, Wrightson and Dark Horse Books are collaborating on a beautiful new hardcover edition of the book, published in a larger 9'' x 12'' format intended to show off the exquisitely detailed line art of one of the greatest living artists in comics today. This book includes the complete text of the original ground-breaking novel, and the original forty-seven full-page illustrations that stunned the world with their monumental beauty and uniqueness. [Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley (W) and Bernie Wrightson (A)]
Bernie Wrightson is one of the most acclaimed horror artist's of all time. His work on Swamp Thing and many DC mystery books are hailed as classics of the form, but his undisputed masterpiece is Frankenstein, illustrated from the Mary Shelley novel. Leading up to Frankenstein, Wrightson did a series of breathtaking stories for Creepy and Eerie magazines, in the mid 1970s. Chief among these stories, and with the beginnings of the style he adopted for Frankenstein, was The Muck Monster. Now, IDW Publishing is pleased to announce the first Artist's Edition portfolio, and featuring the incredibly intricate detail of Bernie Wrightson's The Muck Monster. As with all Artist's Editions books or portfolios, the original art is meticulously scanned in color and from the actual original art. [(W/A/CA) Bernie Wrightson]
From masters of horror Steve Niles and Bernie Wrightson comes the most anticipated and monster-filled comics series of the year, City of Others. When Stosh Bludowski awakes from the nightmare of the last twenty-four hours, his life will be forever changed. It's not like Blud-a ruthless hit man- hasn't known darkness before, but awakening to the reality that the world is filled with zombies and vampires isn't the easiest thing to swallow. Now that he's in the midst of a family of vampires ("others," as they prefer to be called), and they're under attack by an invading army of rampaging zombies, Blud needs to choose a side, and doing so will seal his fate forever. [STEVE NILES (W), BERNIE WRIGHTSON (A), and JOSE VILLARRUBIA (C)]
The epic journey of murderer-turned-monster Stosh "Blud" Bludowski continues in this third issue of Bernie Wrightson and Steve Niles's City of Others! A murderer as remorseless as Blud isn't made in a day, as readers will see in the flashback sequence showing his cruel childhood forays into killing. But things are changing for Blud now that he's chosen eternal life among the Others, and the man who was barely human before is now tortured by his own acts of brutality. But there is little time for reflection now, as Blud must put his newfound emotion to better use by rallying to save what remains of his new family-the Others. [STEVE NILES (W), BERNIE WRIGHTSON (A), and JOSE VILLARRUBIA (C)]
The monster-mental pairing of Bernie Wrightson and Steve Niles comes to a fetid, blistering head with the fourth issue of City of Others! Former serial-killer-for-hire Stosh "Blud" Bludowski has made his choice. He's now a full-fledged monster-a vampiric "Other," ironically now more emotionally human than he ever was as a man. Now this lifelong killer is neck-deep in a world of beings as deadly and ruthless as he ever was. If his undead life is to continue, and his aim of avenging the family he joined to become an Other is to be realized, Blud has a choice he must face . . . [Steve Niles (W), Bernie Wrightson (A), and José Villarrubia (C)]
Stosh Bludowski is a killer, born with the capacity for no apparent human emotion other than rage. Killing comes easy for Blud, and he makes a good living doing what's easy-until the day he meets two jobs in an alley who just won't die, and a grotesque mystery unfolds right in front of him. Soon, the remorseless killer is confronted by a reality he could never imagine, and he will be invited to make a decision once and for all ... is he human, or is he Other? Scheduled to arrive in February. [STEVE NILES (W) and BERNIE WRIGHTSON (A)]
