Princeless: Short Stories for Warrior Women #1

Looking for a positive role-model for a young lady in your life? Look no further!!! Last year, Princeless was nominated for more meaningful awards than a normal person can count with using one hand, if I recall correctly (the number of nominations, that is, not how many fingers a person has on one hand).

Please note: there’s some incorrect information floating around (long story), so… this issue is 24 pages and one of two issues, not a 40 page one shot.

Ghost #0

I miss the days when solicitation information would actually tell you what was in a book. Working off of an assumption (and possibly reading it someplace other than the book’s actual solicitation information), this book reprints Kelly Sue DeConnick & Phil Noto’s Ghost stories from Dark Horse Presents, under a gorgeous cover by Jenny Frison, to help get readers caught up to speed on this relaunch before the regular series starts.

Talon #0

I’ve just recently read & gotten current with Scott Snyder & Greg Capullo’s New 52 Batman title, including the annual. Because I’ve done that, I’m a bit torn as to whether or not I’ll be reading this issue. Snyder & James Tynion IV wrote this year’s Batman Annual featuring Mister Freeze, and while it had some interesting bits, all around it left me a bit apathetic towards it. As for this new Talon, it’s not as if it’s a character we’re grown to love (or hate) by reading his adventures. That being said, I won’t write it off completely, but I wouldn’t be surprised if many people pass on this if they’re on the fence (or that many people would be on the fence).

On the other hand, while I know nothing about Amethyst, this Josh Middleton cover is awesome, and I know a lot of people do know who Amethyst is.

The Savage Hawkman #0

Finally, a cover showcasing interior artist Joe Bennett’s skills! No offense, but I think more people would have given this book a chance if it hadn’t featured covers by Rob Liefeld.

Judd Winick is writing Green Arrow again?

I’m so sick of looking at these Zero Month covers… time to skip ahead… though it looks like we may get some origins less convoluted now… but we all know how that ends up.

I’m really hoping DC does more collections like this, though I hope they do more by creators whose work I don’t like as much because there’s only so much money in my budget!!!

The recently re-released Silver Surfer: Rebirth of Thanos includes this material, but it didn’t have this pretty fancy cover by Andy Park. Also, as I’m a Ron Lim fan, I may need to have this new edition (don’t judge me, nor my illogical budget, please).

Invincible Iron Man #524

“The Future is upon us!” That answers my Iron Man-Matt Fraction-Marvel NOW! question. It also reminds me I really need to get caught up on Fraction’s Iron Man sooner than later (I’m about a two years behind).

I am, however, not behind on Fraction’s Defenders at all right now! And since Hawkeye hasn’t shipped yet, I’ll consider myself caught up on that, too!

Captain Marvel #4

It may be asking for too much, but I wouldn’t mind having Eddie Mac pencil an issue of Captain Marvel.

Avengers Vs X-Men hard cover Cheung cover

I’d have recommended the Nick Bradshaw cover, except: one, I haven’t spotlighted a Cheung cover in a while; and two, I can’t find definitive art for it. What I find especially odd about his book, though, is only select issue of Avengers Vs X-Men: Infinite (which I presume was a digital only series), are included. It makes an oversized, somewhat expensive hard cover seem like an incomplete waste of two ISBNs.

I really need to read the first one of these so I can read this second one, too!

And do you know how awesome Kelly Sue DeConnick is? She signed one of the first hard covers for me to give to my mom as part of her Mother’s Day present!

Co-written by some guy named Mark Waid, my buddy Steve Bryant (of Athena Voltaire, yo!) is drawing this series. And I really dig the Jonboy Meyers cover, too!

The Tower Chronicles Volume 1: Geisthawk

Matt Wagner? Simon Bisley? Count me in… as long as it isn’t lettered using Comic Sans, which has happened to a recently released comic featuring linework by Bisley.

The nostalgic part of me wishes this appearance was happening in Bloodshot #6, but the pragmatic part of me knows that this awesome cover would make little sense there.
