Creator Tim Seeley has worked on G.I. Joe, is the co-creator of Hack/Slash and Revival, and more. He’s also the writer for the upcoming Chaos!, a miniseries from Dynamite celebrating the 20th Anniversary of Chaos! Comics. Westfield’s Roger Ash contacted Seeley to learn more about the series.

Westfield: What attracted you to the project?

Tim Seeley: I have a pretty deeply ingrained affection for the Chaos! characters, dating back to buying the first Evil Ernie book off the shelves at the local comic store when I was teenager. It was the right combination of horror, sexy and punk rock for me then, and I’m hoping to make it the perfect stew of that good stuff now!

Westfield: The books stars a number of classic Chaos! characters. How much knowledge of these characters do readers need before picking up the book?

Seeley: None at all! The series picks up from the Dynamite Evil Ernie series by Jesse Snider, but even that story is all nicely summed up for new readers. The rest of the characters are starting fresh.

Westfield: What can readers look forward to in the book?

Seeley: Lots of blood, gore, sex, skin, explosions, monsters, zombies and blood. Also, blood!

Westfield: Is there any particular character you’re finding that you really enjoy writing?

Seeley: When I write Evil Ernie’s evil sidekick button, Smiley, I seem to tap into some part of myself that I’ve tried to hide from polite society, so that’s always fun.

Westfield: You’re working with artist Mirka Andolfo. What can you say about her contribution to the book?

Seeley: Mirka is an amazing Italian artist who, I think, brings a different look to the book. She draws really great women, and really scary monsters, but her style is very modern, and really animated. I felt like the old Chaos! books were associated with one very specific style, but now that style has kind of become the house style for the big companies. We needed to be more punk rock, and outside of the box.

Westfield: Are there any other projects you’re working on that you’d like to mention?

Seeley: I’m doing Batman Eternal over at DC, and my Jack Kraken one shot with Ross Campbell, Jim Terry and Carlos Badilla is out in May!
