During the heyday of my comic reading, John Ostrander‘s writing was always around, whether on First Comics‘ GrimJack; DC‘s event, Legends; my personal favorite, DC’s Suicide Squad; and many others. He’s remained active in comics and is currently writing Dark Horse‘s Star Wars: Legacy.

Ostrander has been fighting glaucoma for years. Recently, he had to have surgery to help save his eyesight. Unfortunately, his insurance didn’t cover most of it and left him with some very nasty bills. Some of his friends have started a web site called comix4sight where Ostrander’s fans and friends can donate money to help cover his medical expenses. There will also be a special benefit auction on Saturday, August 8th at the Chicago Comic-Con to raise funds. Go here to find out more.
