Fifth Degree: Previews #266
by Josh Crawley
It’s that time of the month again?! Guess so; here we go!
(Not-so-random trivia: I was almost the admin for John Lustig’s website once upon a time. He was probably better off without me, in all honesty.) I’ve been a fan of Lustig’s re-captioned romance comics for about ten years now, and they’ve always entertained me. In addition to this sticky note book, be sure to check out the metal case (handy for cash, receipts, and maybe even cigarettes) and coffee mug offered this month, as well. For some of his work (along with a bunch of other great names) on rewritten Marvel romance comics, take a look at the Marvel Romance Redux: Another Kind of Love soft cover.
Painted Jim Lee artwork? You’d probably have to kill me to keep me from buying this book. And, in full disclosure, I wouldn’t make it very easy. I’d probably maim you in the process. As an added bonus, I’m looking forward to see Lee work over someone else’s layouts for the first time in ages (that I know of).
Superman/Batman: Torment softcover
Finally in soft cover! If that’s how you roll, that is. Me, I’m all about the hard cover. Why? One of my favorite artists ever (Dustin Nguyen, which you knew) drew this arc, quite possibly my favorite of the series’ entire run. Plus, that Alan Burnett guy knows his way around these characters, having worked on many of their animated adventures over the past “few” years.
Ame-Comi Heroine Series: Catwoman V.2 Blue Suit Variant PVC figure
I’m not going to lie; I think this blue suit variant is head-and-shoulders above the already cool looking regular V.2 release.
Angelus Volume 1 Illumination trade paperback
(I’m just guessing on that “Illumination” bit, as it’s shown on the cover but not in the listing anywhere. It sounds great, so I’m going with it.) This book is going to look great on my shelf next to all of my Ron Marz-penned Witchblade soft covers designed by Top Cow’s amazing Phil Smith. Sadly, the Top Cow books are books many people won’t take a chance on due to a decade’s old prejudice that doesn’t fit the material. You’d think great writing and great art would be enough.
Speaking of great writing and great art, it looks like I’m going to be buying a bunch of great Top Cow books in January. If you think Marz does a great job on Witchblade, imagine how awesome his writing is on the book he waited years to write for Top Cow! Done imagining yet? How about now? Yeah, it’s better than that. And if you’re looking for something to whet your whistle before it ships, we’re still taking orders for Magdalena Origins Volume 1.
Robert E. Howard: The Sword Woman & Other Historical Adventures soft cover
I’ve never read any Robert E. Howard stories (that I know of), but I’d be lying if I said women wielding swords wasn’t sexy; throwing in the historical adventures aspect of it just makes it that much more intriguing.
Sucker Punch: Baby Doll statue
I haven’t been impressed with director Zack Snyder’s previous films (300, Watchmen), but this statue has done more to encourage me to give Sucker Punch than pretty much anything else could (paying me not-withstanding). If I had the room, I’d be buying both this and the Sucker Punch: Amber statue.
That’s it for this week. Follow my tweets, email me, and be sure to keep an eye out on the Westfield Comics Facebook.
Josh Crawley may or may not be the keyboardist for Everclear. He strongly suggests you not bet that he is.

Trust me, you’re in for a treat with “Sword Woman”: Dark Agnes is one of Howard’s most fascinating and intriguing characters. I’d dare say she’s even my favourite, over Conan and Solomon Kane, depending on my mood.
