news from 2009 SAN DIEGO con
Thursday, July 23 through Sunday, July 26 was the 39th Annual San Diego Comic-Con which in recent years has become much more than just a comic book convention and is now seen as a pop culture event for comics; movies; television and still has plenty of room for the fan who just wants to go and dress up as their favorite character. (Not much room but enough)
We won’t attempt to mention every announcement made at Comic-Con, but instead would mention a few things that made us say WHAAAAT?!!! or possibly HUH?! or maybe YAAAY!!! There’s a lot of information out there to sift through.
- Marvel has announced that they now have the rights to Marvelman (the original name in England of the guy we in the states call Miracleman)
- Jeff Smith has announced that there are more Bone books coming!
- Disney released test footage for their long-awaited sequel Tron: Legacy
- Warner Brothers held a panel and released the poster image for the Jonah Hex movie
- DC has finally acquired the rights to T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents and will incorporate the characters into the DC Universe
- Gerard Way announced Hotel Oblivion, the third Umbrella Academy series, and also that he’s writing The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, or Killjoys for short with art by Becky Cloonan.
- Comedian and comics writer Patton Oswalt is working on a Serenity comic book about Hoban “Wash” Washburn. (Yeah, we thought that was weird too)
For full coverage of the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con you probably would have had to been there and had about a dozen clones, but we recommend our friends at Comic Book Resources.com for their exhaustive coverage (tell ‘em the staff from Westfield sent ya)
